Call for Papers

The faculty of Religious and Pastoral Studies at Mount St. Joseph University invites paper proposal for the two day conference “Lay Movements as Structures of Grace” to be held on July 6-8, 2018.”

Keynote speakers include Dr Joe Holland, Dr Bob Pennington, Dr Kevin Ahern, Stefan Gigacz... and members of the project team.

The two full days of the conference will be devoted to two aspects of the theme:

a) A historical overview of the development and contribution of the lay movements inspired by Joseph Cardijn's jocist model, including the Young Christian Workers (YCW), Young Christian Students (YCS), Christian Family Movement (CFM), parish/youth/young adult ministries, basic Christian communities...

b) Prospects for the future of the Cardijn-inspired and Vatican II vision of lay movements and lay apostolate in the world... 

We welcome academic proposals from faculty, early-career scholars, and postgraduate students from a variety of disciplines including theology, philosophy, the social and natural sciences.

We also welcome contributions from leaders and activists who have personal experience of this work.

Proposals should be sent by email to robert.pennington@msj.edu and include the following: a) paper title, b) abstract of up to 300 words, and c) institutional affiliation.

Submission deadline: 30 April 2018.
